Boiler Quality Steel Plates for Boiler and Pressure-Equipment Fabrication

Navgraha Steels INC supplies boiler quality steel plates for industrial boilers, pressure-containing equipment, drums, heat exchangers, tanks and process-equipment fabrication where an approved material specification requires the applicable grade. The core range includes SA 516 Grade 60, Grade 70, Grade 60/70 dual certified, Grade 415 and Grade 485, together with SA 516 Grade 70 material for specified NACE and HIC requirements.

For a technical and commercial offer, send the complete grade, standard edition, plate dimensions, quantity, heat-treatment condition, impact temperature, supplementary tests, certificate type and delivery destination. Boiler steel must be purchased against the design and project specification; the grade name alone does not establish suitability for every pressure or temperature condition.

Plate, Sheet and Coil Terminology

Boiler quality requirements are most commonly associated with plate. A page or quotation that uses "sheet" or "coil" must still identify the exact governing material specification and confirm that the required product form and thickness are covered. Product-form terminology should never replace the formal grade, standard and material condition.

Applications and Material Selection Considerations

Boiler quality steel plates may be specified for:

  • Boiler drums, shells and approved boiler components
  • Pressure vessels and pressure-containing equipment
  • Heat exchangers, separators and process vessels
  • Storage tanks where a pressure-vessel grade is required
  • Petrochemical, refinery and chemical-processing equipment
  • Power-generation and industrial heating equipment
  • Fabricated equipment operating at specified moderate or lower-temperature conditions

Application references are indicative and do not guarantee suitability. Final material selection should consider:

  • Governing boiler or pressure-vessel design code
  • Design pressure and minimum/maximum design temperature
  • Plate thickness and required strength
  • Notch-toughness and impact-test temperature
  • Heat treatment and post-weld heat-treatment requirements
  • Corrosion allowance and process environment
  • Sour-service, HIC or hardness requirements
  • Welding procedure, consumables and preheat controls
  • Statutory, IBR, client, EPC and third-party inspection requirements
SA 516 is not a universal high-temperature creep-resistant material. Where the equipment operates under conditions requiring chrome-moly or other alloy steel, refer to the Alloy & Chrome-Moly Steel Plates category and the approved design specification.

Stock, Mill Sourcing, Processing and Delivery

Navgraha Steels INC handles boiler plate requirements through a combination of available stock, domestic mill sourcing and imported sourcing. The applicable route depends on grade, thickness, size, heat treatment, test requirements, approved mill list, quantity and delivery schedule.

  • Ready-stock review for applicable SA 516 grades and dimensions
  • Full plates and cut-to-size plate requirements
  • Mill- or origin-specific sourcing for approved-vendor projects
  • Plate cutting, profiling, bevel or edge preparation and marking where applicable
  • Heat-number continuity and traceability based on supplied documents
  • Additional testing and inspection coordination when included before order placement
  • Domestic transport and export logistics planning
  • Packing suitable for the agreed handling, transport and destination requirements
The current company portfolio refers to material sourcing associated with SAIL, AMNS, JSPL, Evonith and applicable international mills or stock sources. Mill availability is grade- and order-specific. A mill name must not be interpreted as permanent stock, authorised distributorship or manufacturer endorsement unless separate written evidence is available. For eligible ready-stock plates, expedited processing or dispatch may be possible — a same-day or 24–72-hour dispatch claim applies only after the exact plates, quantity, documentation, testing, processing, payment status and destination are confirmed in writing. Mill orders, imports, normalising, supplementary tests, third-party inspection and special packing require separate lead-time confirmation.

MTC, IBR, Testing and Inspection Requirements

Boiler plate procurement commonly requires material identity, traceability and test documentation. The exact document package must be stated in the RFQ and agreed before order placement.

  • Manufacturer material test certificate
  • EN 10204 Type 3.1 certificate where applicable
  • EN 10204 Type 3.2 validation or inspection when arranged in advance
  • Heat number, chemical composition and mechanical-property results
  • Heat-treatment records when applicable
  • Impact-test results at the ordered test temperature
  • Ultrasonic examination to the specified method and acceptance level
  • HIC test report and NACE-related documentation for applicable sour-service orders
  • IBR-related documentation for eligible boiler material when required and available
  • Third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas, TÜV, Lloyd's Register, DNV or another nominated agency when accepted
IBR, PED, NACE, inspection-agency and certificate references apply only when the material and order fulfil the relevant requirements and the supporting documents are supplied. They are not universal company or product approvals. Any company-level ISO certification should be published with its current certificate number, issuer, scope and validity. Before fabrication, the buyer should reconcile plate marking and heat number with the MTC, purchase order, dimensions, test reports and inspection release documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is boiler quality steel plate?
Boiler quality steel plate is material manufactured to a specification intended for applicable pressure-containing equipment. It has controlled chemical and mechanical requirements, but suitability still depends on grade, thickness, heat treatment, design code and service conditions.
Which SA 516 grades does Navgraha Steels INC supply?
The listed range covers SA 516 Grade 60, Grade 70, Grade 60/70 dual certified, Grade 415, Grade 485, Grade 70 NACE and Grade 70 HIC enquiries. Availability varies by thickness, size, condition, test scope and source.
What is the difference between SA 516 Grade 60 and Grade 70?
They have different specified strength ranges. Grade selection must follow the approved equipment design and project specification; Grade 70 should not automatically replace Grade 60 or vice versa.
What does SA 516 Grade 60/70 dual certified mean?
It means the specific material is documented as satisfying the applicable requirements of both grades. Acceptance depends on the mill certificate, test results and project approval.
Are Grade 485 and Grade 70 the same?
Grade 485 is the metric-strength designation associated with the applicable Grade 70 strength level. The purchase order should still identify the exact specification, unit system, edition and requirements to avoid documentation mismatches.
