Steel Plates, Sheets & Coils for Petrochemical & Fertilizer Plant Applications

Navgraha Steels INC supports EPC, fabricator, maintenance and procurement enquiries for petrochemical and fertilizer process equipment. Material selection depends on the exact unit, code, pressure, temperature, hydrogen exposure, process chemistry, corrosive medium, fabrication route and approved project specification. India and export enquiries are reviewed against the complete RFQ.

Plant Equipment and Operating Challenges

Petrochemical and fertilizer complexes can include reformers, reactors, converters, separators, heat exchangers, columns, scrubbers, vessels, tanks and supporting structures. Service conditions differ significantly between units and components.

Selection must account for process medium, concentration, pressure, metal temperature, hydrogen, wet-H₂S where relevant, ammonium-carbamate or other process chemistry, thermal cycling, corrosion allowance, welding, PWHT, impact toughness and inspection requirements. No one carbon steel, chrome-moly grade or nickel alloy is suitable for every ammonia, urea, methanol or petrochemical process stream.

Applications and Component Considerations

SA 516 grades may be evaluated for approved pressure vessels, separators, columns, heat-exchanger shells, tanks and process equipment where the applicable code and service conditions support their use. Base material does not automatically qualify for sour service, HIC testing, NACE/AMPP controls or every hydrogen-containing duty.

Chrome-moly routes may be considered for specified reformer, reactor, heat-exchanger and elevated-temperature pressure-equipment requirements. Grade 11, Grade 12, Grade 22, Grade 91 and 16Mo3 have different composition, heat-treatment, creep and fabrication considerations. They are not direct equivalents and should not be substituted without engineering review.

Nickel-alloy materials may be evaluated for selected acid coolers, scrubbers, corrosive process vessels, heat exchangers and other components where the actual process stream supports their use. Ammonia, urea, methanol and fertilizer facilities do not have one universal corrosion mechanism. The chemical, concentration, water content, contaminants, temperature, velocity, equipment geometry and fabrication condition matter.

This page covers flat products only. It does not establish suitability for tube, pipe, fittings, forgings, castings, welding consumables, linings or completed equipment.

Testing, Certification and Project Documentation

Petrochemical and fertilizer projects may require documentation beyond a standard MTC. State the complete requirement in the RFQ before ordering.

  • EN 10204 Type 3.1 MTC or arranged Type 3.2 certification
  • Heat-number traceability and agreed marking transfer
  • Impact testing at the required temperature
  • Ultrasonic examination and stated acceptance criteria
  • PMI for alloy verification
  • HIC testing with the exact method, solution and acceptance values
  • Hardness, chemistry, carbon-equivalent or heat-treatment restrictions
  • IBR, PED, approved-mill or buyer-nominated third-party inspection arrangements
HIC testing, SSC concerns and NACE/AMPP requirements are separate controls. Material documentation applies only to the identified supplied product, not to the completed plant or equipment.

Why Source Through Navgraha Steels INC?

Navgraha Steels INC reviews available stock and Indian or imported sourcing options against the requested grade, form, dimensions, quantity, certificate and project conditions. Confirm the actual mill, origin and supporting documents in the quotation and against the MTC.

Subject to specification and commercial feasibility, support may include plates, sheets and coils; cut-to-size, profiling, shearing, slitting, edge preparation, agreed marking and traceability. Documentation review, TPI coordination, transport, export logistics, packing and shipping documents can be arranged within the accepted scope.

Small, bulk and project enquiries are reviewed subject to availability and mill programme. Urgent dispatch requires confirmed material, documents, processing, payment and destination.

India and Export Supply

For Mumbai, India and export supply, provide delivery city, country or port, quantity, required date, Incoterm, packing and inspection-release conditions. Freight, documents and shipment planning depend on the confirmed order and destination.

Domestic and export enquiries are accepted. No fixed availability, delivery schedule, approval, inspection package or packing method should be assumed before the quotation is reviewed and accepted.

Price and RFQ Requirements

Petrochemical and fertilizer material prices depend on grade, specification, form, dimensions, quantity, delivery condition, mill or origin, testing, documentation, processing, packing, freight, currency and destination.

  • Plant, unit and equipment/component
  • Governing specification, code and edition
  • Grade or engineering material requirement
  • Plate, sheet or coil form

Frequently Asked Questions

Which materials can be supplied for petrochemical and fertilizer plants?
Material routes may include SA 516 pressure-vessel steel, HIC/NACE pathways, SA 387 chrome-moly grades, 16Mo3, structural steel and selected nickel alloys, subject to the component and project specification.
Is one grade suitable for ammonia, urea and methanol plants?
No. Each process has different pressure, temperature, chemistry, corrosion and fabrication considerations. Grade selection must be component-specific.
Which plates are used for petrochemical pressure vessels?
SA 516 Grade 60 or Grade 70 may be evaluated for approved pressure-vessel service. High-temperature or sour-service duties can require another specified route.
Can HIC-tested or NACE-specified material be supplied?
Applicable material can be reviewed when the exact standard, HIC method, test solution, acceptance criteria and documentation are stated before ordering.
Are chrome-moly grades used in reformer and high-temperature equipment?
SA 387 Grade 11, 12, 22, 91 and 16Mo3 may be evaluated where the approved design specifies their properties. They are not interchangeable without review.
Can plates be cut and processed with traceability?
Cutting, profiling, shearing, slitting, edge preparation and agreed marking may be arranged where feasible, with traceability managed through the agreed procedure.
What is required for a price and availability review?
Send the equipment name, governing code, grade, form, dimensions, quantity, process conditions, test requirements, certificates, processing details and destination.
Do you support India and export orders?
Yes. Availability, documents, inspection, packing, freight, Incoterm and delivery schedule are confirmed individually for each accepted order.
